Dating service Tinder has announced that it has stopped working in Belarus. Match Group brands, including Tinder, are taking steps to end their service in this country. It is noted that access to Tinder in Belarus will stop on February 15.
From February 15, right after Valentine’s Day, users in Belarus will not be able to use the Tinder service or log in to their account. After February 15, automatic service subscriptions will stop.
Tinder has not disclosed the reasons for its decision to stop working in Belarus at this time. It should be noted that the service stopped working in Russia in June 2023. At the time, Match Group explained this decision as a “commitment to the protection of human rights.” Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Tinder has restricted access to its services in Russia.
According to the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty, security forces in Belarus used Tinder to identify people dissatisfied with the Lukashenka regime. Under the guise of acquaintances, Belarusian penal authorities were looking for people who went to protests against the permanent head of the country. Several cases of verdicts have been recorded, when the case began precisely with information and correspondence from Tinder.
