The 9-episode first season debuted on Disney+ in 2022 to fairly mediocre reviews, with a critical score of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences were harsher at 32%.
At the same time, Tatyana Maslany in a recent interview said that “Hulk Woman” is unlikely to get a second season – however, she called the reason not the audience’s reaction, but money restrictions.
“I think we blew our budget and Disney said, ‘No thanks,'” Maslany said.
According to Variety, one episode of “She-Hulk” cost Disney $25 million. For comparison, each episode of the last season of “Game of Thrones” cost about $15 million.
“She-Hulk: The Lawyer” is the eighth television series of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the events of which take place after the movie “Avengers: Endgame”. Maslany starred in the series as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in cases involving superhumans and can become a large, powerful and green version of herself, just like her cousin Bruce Banner/Hulk. Mark Ruffalo also appeared in the first season, along with Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Benedict Wong (Wong), Jamila Jamil (Titania), Josh Segarra, Ginger Gonzaga, and more.
Kat Koiro and Anu Walia each directed several episodes of the first season, while Jessica Gao served as the main writer. Gao said in an interview last year that the last episode of the season could be the finale of the entire show if Disney doesn’t renew it:
“I’ve been writing for television for a long time and I know there’s no guarantee that you’ll get another season. The best decision for a writer would be to create a story so that the viewer feels that they are complete, but the door is still open for six seasons or a movie.”
