According to scientists, average life expectancy in 2030 will be 86.54 years for women and 83.13 years for men.
People all over the world are now living longer than before. At the same time, the gap between the life expectancy of men and women is decreasing. This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by a group of scientists led by David Atans, a professor of economics and business management at the University of Alcalá in Spain, Live Science reports.
The study was conducted in more than 190 countries. It is noted that in 1990, the average life expectancy of women was 77.17 years, while the life expectancy of men was 72.23. In 2010, this life expectancy rose to 83.10 for women and 78.37 for men. Thus, the gap in life expectancy has narrowed slightly, by about 0.2 years.
Researchers believe the rate of increase in longevity among women has slowed. At the same time, worldwide average life expectancy in 2030 will be 86.54 years for women and 83.13 years for men.
“This study is consistent with epidemiological trends that suggest life expectancy is increasing worldwide and the gender gap is closing over time,” said Dr. Brandon Yang, a physician at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.
Last year, Yang published a report on the gender gap in life expectancy in the United States, and contrary to global data, the gap appears to be widening within the country. The difference between the life expectancy of American men and women has increased from 4.8 years in 2010 to 5.8 years in 2021.
Despite these trends, on average women still have longer life expectancies than men.
“And projections show that it is quite possible that this difference, even if it narrows, will continue into the future,” Athans said.
Scientists explain this by saying that as many men age, they lose the Y chromosome in some of their cells. This chromosome loss is associated with age-related diseases and death, and researchers have cited it as one possible reason why men tend to die at a younger age than women.
