Despite a poor start (a modest $8 million in the US), the romantic comedy starring Sidney Sweeney and Glen Powell received an additional boost thanks to TikTok and became a box office success.
Anyone But You has now grossed over $100.2 million, according to Deadline, making Sony the highest-grossing R-rated romantic comedy since 2016’s Bridget Jones 3.
The film, which is based on William Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing, tells the story of two sworn enemies who pretend to be a couple in love at a friend’s wedding. Anyone But You was directed by Will Gluck (Sex Buddies, Easygoing) and stars Sidney Sweeney and Glen Powell. The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on January 25, and a few months after that it will debut on Netflix.
Meanwhile, Miramax’s “The Bee,” starring Jason Statham, added another $14.2 million at the international box office, bringing its total to $44.2 million. The global box office for the David Eyre action thriller now stands at $75.3 million.
Last weekend, the Warner Bros. musical “Wonka” crossed the half-billion mark at the box office. The decrease in ticket sales at the moment has reached 35%, and the exact amount of global earnings was $531.8 million (however, the premiere in Korea is still ahead).
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now on its way to $400 million at the worldwide box office, with $114.1 million domestic and $282 million internationally. Interestingly, this is DC’s highest-grossing film in 5 years.
Searchlight’s Les Miserables has just $33.7 million, while Disney’s Desire earned $233.2 million worldwide, making it only the 4th animated release of the year.
