The Ministry of Statistics spoke about a new initiative designed to improve the state of affairs in Ukrainian education. It was called the “Coalition of Devices” and is aimed at providing Ukrainian students and teachers with the necessary devices for learning.
It is noted that due to the full-scale war, about 2 million Ukrainian children continue to study online or in a mixed format. Of them, 327,000 are forced to skip classes or not attend them at all due to the lack of necessary equipment for learning. To date, students are in critical need of more than 96,000 laptops, and teachers need more than 29,000. The Device Coalition is designed to change that.
This initiative, announced in London with the participation of the Ministry of Digital, Ministry of Education and Culture and the Olena Zelenska Foundation, should unite organizations, businesses, governments and patrons to provide Ukrainian students and teachers with the necessary equipment. This will help to conduct online training. This is especially true in the communities most affected by the war.
Within the framework of the “Coalition of Devices” initiative, there are already the first agreements. Ukraine will receive more than 50,000 devices from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Education Cannot Wait, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In order to effectively integrate the devices received from partners into the education process, the team of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Digital is working on creating a full-fledged digital educational ecosystem.
We remind you that this is not the first initiative to provide laptops to the Ukrainian education system. Several years ago, more than 60,000 laptops were given to Ukrainian teachers as part of the “Laptop for every teacher” program. 5,000 iPad tablets were allocated for the needs of Ukrainian schoolchildren. In addition, Google promised to hand over 43,000 Chromebook laptops for Ukrainian teachers.
