What happened to the environmental activists after the action is not reported.
At the Louvre, two environmental activists poured soup on the world famous painting “Mona Lisa”. The work of art itself is under bulletproof glass, so it was not damaged by the soup.
CCTV footage shows two women demanding the right to “healthy food”, saying France’s “agricultural system is sick”.
A group called Riposte Alimentaire (“Food Counterattack”) took responsibility for organizing such actions. They said the action is part of efforts to integrate “food into the overall social security system.” The statement also said that the current food supply “does not respect our fundamental right to food.”
Activists declared the need to issue citizens a monthly food card worth 150 euros.
Situation in Paris
A few days ago, protests by farmers began in Paris. They demand that the government strengthen support for agriculture and limit imports of agricultural products. Two days ago, protesters blocked the main roads leading into the city.
Protests also affected other cities in the country. Videos from the streets of French cities showed protesters blocking roads, pouring feces and mud on security forces’ vehicles, throwing manure on the streets, and burning trucks carrying imported products.
