French farmers can no longer withstand competition with Ukrainians.
The European Union must take clear measures to streamline the import of Ukrainian grain and chicken meat into the EU internal market. French President Emanuel Macron announced this at a press conference in Sweden.
“We need very concrete steps for our farmers – clear measures on imports from Ukraine, because today the volume and quality of imports are destabilizing the European market – either chicken or grains,” said the French leader.
Macron also said that he has plans to hold talks on this topic with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the European summit. It will take place this week in Brussels.
Farmer protests in France
As wrote, farmers’ protests have not subsided in France for several days now. They demand that the government strengthen support for agriculture and limit the import of agricultural products from abroad. At the same time, farmers are acting quite aggressively and decisively: blocking roads, watering security forces’ vehicles with liquid fertilizers, spreading humus on the streets, and burning trucks with imported products.
Farmers, in particular, demand simplification of administrative procedures and oppose rising prices for diesel fuel for tractors, as well as new bans on the use of pesticides.
