Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder held a briefing during which he confirmed that Ukraine will receive high-precision GLSDB (Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb) bombs. For reasons of confidentiality, he began to name any specific delivery dates.

“On the small-diameter bomb, as we recognized last year, we will provide Ukraine with a small-diameter land-based bomb as part of our USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) – our USAI-funded security assistance effort. However, for security reasons, we are not going to confirm specific dates,” said Pat Ryder.

At the same time, the Politico resource stated that the transfer of GLSDB bombs to Ukraine will begin today, January 31.

As a reminder, GLSDB is a combination of an aerial bomb and an engine from an unguided missile. This solution has several advantages. First, such ammunition is compatible with the M-270 and HIMARS systems, which are already in service with Ukraine. Secondly, this development breathed a second life into the obsolete M-26 projectile for MLRS. You can not dispose of it, but use the engine to obtain high-precision weapons.

The GLSDB bomb is launched from a ground mount using an artillery engine. After launch, the wings open, and the ammunition already acts as a cruise missile. It is able to carry about 100 kg of warheads at a distance of 150 km and accurately hit targets. During the test at the maximum range, the deviation error was no more than 1 meter. Another advantage is the ability of ammunition to maneuver in flight.

Such high-precision missiles will be very useful for causing damage to the Russian occupation forces in Ukraine. With a flight range of 150 km, they cover almost the entire temporarily occupied territory. Only the southern parts of Crimea will be out of reach. But Dzhankoy and the territories located to the north of this settlement will be in the defeat zone. And there are many important targets of destruction.
