While he didn’t direct Deadpool 3 (that task is up to Sean Levy), he seems to have some insight into the movie he’s calling Marvel’s salvation.
“The few details I know about ‘Deadpool vs. Wolverine’ — or ‘Wolverine vs. Deadpool’ — are unbelievable,” On said on BroBible’s “Post Credit” podcast (via Variety ). “This is the jolt that will bring Marvel back to life…I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are going to save the entire Marvel universe.”
Vaughn’s latest directorial effort, the spy drama Argyle, hits theaters on February 2. In 2011, the director worked on the film “X-Men: First Class”.
“I’m a real X-Men fan. All I want is for the films to be as good as they should be,” added the director.
2023 was a tough year for Marvel – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum of Solace and Marvel failed at the box office. The latter never crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, and is currently Marvel’s lowest-grossing film.
The studio is now trying to deal with the crisis, changing its production strategy and considering whether to bring back the original Avengers.
Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel feature film to be released in 2024. Fox owned the previous two installments, along with the entire X-Men franchise, until it was acquired by Disney in 2019 for $71.3 billion.
What is known about the film is that it unites Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool” with Hugh Jackman’s “Wolverine”, although there will be some conflict between them. There are expected to be plenty of big cameos, with Morena Baccarin and Jennifer Garner returning to their roles.
The premiere of “Deadpool 3” in cinemas was originally scheduled for May 3, 2024, but due to the actors’ strikes, it was postponed to July 26.
