The number of paid users of YouTube Premium and YouTube Music increased by 20 million in a year and reached 100 million. Compared to September 2021, the number of subscriptions doubled.
Last year, the cost of a YouTube Premium subscription in the US increased by $2 per month. In Ukraine, an individual subscription to YouTube Premium costs UAH 99 per month (a student plan is almost twice as cheap), while a family plan for 6 people costs UAH 149 per month.
The company did not mention the number of subscribers for YouTube Music (Premium includes access to this service), but the service still lags behind Spotify, which boasted 220 million premium subscribers in September. Apple is also silent on data about Apple Music: the last clear figure sounded in 2019 — 60 million subscribers.
Meanwhile, YouTube is increasingly aggressively pushing users to switch to a paid tariff — last May, when the platform detected an activated ad blocker, the platform began to limit the viewing of videos on the platform in the browser and issued a corresponding Pop-Up with a warning, and in November it began to slow down the site for users with enabled ad blockers.
