Greece will not send S-300 air defense missiles to Ukraine – this was announced by the representative of the Greek government, Pavlos Marinakis. In the original news, it is about missiles, but it probably also applies to the S-300 complexes.
“There should be a limit to fake news, especially when it is related to the interests of the country and its international image. There is no such thing, and I categorically deny it. There was not even the intention of Greece to risk the defense of the country.”
The possibility that Greece may transfer the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine has increased against the background of negotiations with the United States. Allegedly, Greece offered to consider the transfer of Soviet military equipment to Ukraine in exchange for F-35 aircraft and financial assistance in the purchase of weapons.
Marinakis’ statement allegedly refers specifically to the S-300PMU1, but Greece also has other air defense equipment: Tor-M1, Osa-M and ZU-23-2 air defense systems in the amount of more than 500 units – although some of them already installed on BMP-1.
In addition to the sale of fighter jets, the US offered the country military transport aircraft, engines for patrol aircraft and dozens of Bradley fighting vehicles free of charge, and there was also talk of selling three frigates.
