iOS 17 is installed on 76% of iPhones released in the last four years. This is evidenced by Apple’s statistics.
However, 20% of iPhones released in the last four years are still running the previous version of iOS 16. Another 4% use an earlier operating system. Among all active iPhones, the share of iOS 17 is 66%. Another 23% are running iOS 16 and 11% are running an earlier version of iOS.
Apple also shared data on iPadOS usage. 61% of iPads introduced in the last four years have iPadOS 17 installed, 29% have iPadOS 16 installed, and 10% have an earlier version of iPadOS. Among all active iPads, 53% have iPadOS 17, 29% have iPadOS 16, and 18% are using an earlier version of iPadOS.
Around this time last year, 81% of all iPhones introduced in the previous four years were running the then-latest iOS 16. Thus, the adoption of iOS 17 is slower. However, in February 2023, only 53% of iPads were running the new iPadOS 16. Therefore, the adoption rate of iPadOS 17 is higher than iPadOS 16.
iOS 17 was released in September 2023, and Apple has released three major updates so far. The fourth major update, iOS 17.4, will be released in March.
