The director has very far-sighted plans, considering that the release of the third film is two years away, while Avatar 4 is scheduled for 2029 and Avatar 5 for 2031.
It would seem that five films are enough for the Pandora universe, but director James Cameron has a slightly different opinion on this matter.
“We’re all set for Avatar 5, and I have ideas for the sixth and seventh movies, although I’ll probably pass the baton at that point,” Cameron told People.
Avatar 3, which is scheduled for release in December 2025, is currently in post-production. The next films would be released 4 and 6 years after that respectively (although the dates were changed several times).
“Since childhood, my inspiration has been Star Trek and Star Wars. We’re a pretty young universe compared to them. We only have two films and a third is in the works. To have the same cultural impact over time, we have to put our heart and energy into it,” says Cameron.
The director says that he is often asked why he continues to work in the same universe:
“And why did George Lucas continue to work in the same universe? Why did Gene Roddenberry keep working on the same thing? Why spoil something? Why start something in the first place that might not work?”.
The second “Avatar” was released in December 2022, 13 years after the debut of the original, which became the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.9 billion. another successful work of Cameron “Titanic”
“Avatar” is supposed to represent a more aggressive race of Na’vi – the so-called “ash people”, and the main character of the film will be Jake Sully’s son, Lo’ak.
