The billionaire plans to “give up his phone number” in the next few months – instead relying solely on calls and messages on X.
“In a few months I will stop using my phone number and only use X for text messages and audio/video calls,” Musk wrote.
It seems that Elon, by his own example, is trying to attract as many people as possible to sign up for an X Premium subscription for $8 per month: since all users can receive calls, but only premium users can make calls.

The option of audio and video calls was activated on the platform in October.
As Gizmodo points out, giving up a phone number also looks dubious from a security perspective. These are, in particular, SMS verification codes used for two-factor authentication. X, offers this option, like many other social networks – again for paid users. Others may use authentication programs or security keys.
