As reported by Defense Express, on February 7, 2024, during a missile attack on Ukraine, the Russian aggressors used ZM22 “Zirkon” missiles, which they call hypersonic, for firing. Debris was discovered at the place where the rocket fell in the Dnipro district of Kyiv, in an open space. This suggests that the missile was shot down after all. However, in the Air Force base, there are no missiles of this type among those intercepted.

Strong fragmentation of the remains of the rocket complicates its identification. Also, little is known about ZM22 “Zirkon” missiles, they have never been presented publicly. But the remains of the rocket are similar to the wreckage of another similar one, also identified as “Zircon”. Experts assume that this is a solid-fuel missile that accelerates to Mach 9 and has a range of 600 km or 1,000 km. Probably, the missile launcher was the “Bastion” or “Object-100” complex.

Another novelty, which, however, is also not being used for the first time, was identified in Kharkiv. There is more official information about her from Serhii Bolvinov, the head of the investigative department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region. It is reported that the enemy used two North Korean Hwasong-11Ga (KN-23) missiles to strike the city.

For the first time, Hwasong-11Ga were used in combined attacks on December 30 and January 2, and later on January 6. Then the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) investigated the remains of the missiles and confirmed their North Korean origin. There are several characteristics that clearly distinguish the KN-23 from the missile for the Iskander complex. This is a wider tail part, the presence of characteristic hieroglyphs and the date format.
