The pirated game Skull and Bones, which Ubisoft thinks is so good it’s worth the $70 price tag and AAA rating, so far has the lowest user rating on Metacritic of any game released in 2024. Even less than Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
As of this writing, 342 users have reviewed Skull and Bones on Metacritic. Unfortunately for Ubisoft, 242 of those, or 71%, were negative, and 29 (8%) were mixed.
Skull and Bones’ user score of 3 makes it the worst user-rated game of 2024 so far, behind even Suicide Squad with a score of 3.7. Critical reviews are a little better, with Skull and Bones currently holding a score of 64, which ranks it 30th out of 36 games released in 2024.
Earlier this month, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillaume defended Skull and Bones’ $70 price tag (for console versions), insisting it’s a four-letter A game (big-budget blockbuster games are usually referred to as AAA). This conceit came during Ubisoft’s Q3 2024 results conference call, where it was asked if it would be better to make Skull and Bones free, reports TechSpot.
The launch of Skull and Bones has been delayed six times since the first announcement at E3 in 2017 – initial work on the game began back in 2013. It is also reported that it went over budget and cost about 200 million dollars.
