Prime Minister Gabriel Attal called Russia a threat to France at all levels.
France may send its soldiers to Ukraine to “protect a certain number of borders.”
This was stated by French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal during a speech in the Senate, he was quoted by the Public Senat. According to the official, no one in France can accept the possibility of a Russian victory in the war against Ukraine.
“Russia has changed its position. Its position has become tougher in the context of this conflict, as well as against us, France and the allies, due to the increase in false information to poison us or cyber attacks,” Attal said.
As the prime minister notes, the reality is that the aggressor country is a direct and immediate threat to France “at all levels.”
“When we talk about French soldiers, we can definitely talk about soldiers who are in training, ground defense or defending a certain number of borders,” he explained.
Sending French soldiers to Ukraine
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters that he had discussed the idea of sending troops to Ukraine. According to him, this idea currently has no support, but it cannot be completely ruled out.
Most European countries immediately rejected this idea and assured that there were no plans to help Ukraine with their troops. However, Lithuania liked the idea of sending Western armies to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, because the future of Europe is being decided in Ukraine.
As Politico wrote, Macron’s statement indicates his intention to take leadership in the Western world and lead a coalition of countries supporting Ukraine. However, the internal political situation in France itself may become a hindrance to him.
The entire French opposition has already attacked Macron because of his loud statement. He has been criticized by both the far right, such as Marine Le Pen, and the left, in particular the influential Socialist Party. Even centrists condemned the “demonstration of the president’s muscles.”
