Google “definitely spoiled” the generation of images by Gemini – the company’s co-founder Sergey Brin

Google co-founder Sergey Brin held a meeting with entrepreneurs at AGI House, where developers tested the Google Gemini artificial intelligence model.

When asked, Brin discussed the impact of AI on search and how Google can maintain its leadership position in its core market as AI continues to evolve. He also commented on last month’s false launch of Google’s image generator, which the company temporarily restricted after users discovered historical inaccuracies and questionable answers.

“We definitely screwed up the image generation,” Breen said Saturday. “I think it was mostly due to sloppy testing. It certainly upset a lot of people for good reasons.”

Sergey Brin, 50, also told a group of AI enthusiasts that he came back from retirement “because the trajectory of AI is so exciting.”

Brin co-founded Google with Larry Page in 1998. He stepped down as president of Alphabet in 2019, though he remains a board member and a major shareholder with a stake in the company worth about $100 billion. He returned to the company to help strengthen Google’s position in the hypercompetitive AI market.

As for the recent problems with Gemini that led to erroneous imaging results, Brin said the company isn’t entirely sure why the responses are left-leaning in a political sense.

“We don’t fully understand why it leans to the left in many cases,” but “that’s not our intention,” he said.

The company recently improved accuracy by 80 percent in certain internal tests, Brin added. At the same time, he agrees that AI sometimes does not work quite correctly. Hallucinations or false responses to a user’s query are still “a big problem,” he said.
