Ludwig Jöransson won his second statuette for the score to Oppenheimer, but he was a bit disparaging about video games in his emotional speech.

First, the Swedish composer thanked director Christopher Nolan:
“Your idea to use the violin in the score allowed me to collaborate with my wonderful wife and acclaimed violinist, Serena Joransson.”
And then he turned to his parents:
“Thank you for giving me guitars and drums instead of video games!”
Perhaps unintentionally, with his words, Jöransson seems to have somewhat devalued the work of video game creators and composers themselves (not to mention condescending to video game fans), who are also recognized with prestigious awards. For example, in 2023, the 2023 Grammy Music Awards added a separate nomination for game soundtracks, in which Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and composer Stephanie Economou were honored.
As for Oppenheimer, the award for best score is just one of a number of statuettes that Christopher Nolan’s film has picked up this year (seven Oscars in total, including Best Picture and Best Director).
Jöransson, 39, previously won an Oscar for his score to Black Panther in 2019 and was nominated for Best Original Song in 2023. The composer was also awarded the BAFTA, Golden Globe and Grammy awards for the music for Oppenheimer.
