The author of the original “Alien” Ridley Scott serves as a producer.
Fede Alvarez (The Grim Dead, Don’t Breathe) directed Alien: Romulus from a script he co-wrote with his regular partner Rodo Sayages, based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
The film (actually an interquel) takes place between the events of Scott’s original 1979 film and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens, featuring “a group of young space colonizers who come face-to-face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Starring Kayleigh Spainy (“Priscilla”), Isabella Merced (“One of Us”), Archie Reno (“Shadow and Bone”), Eileen Wu, Spike Fearn and David Johnson.
The trailer for Alien: Romulus begins with a recreation of the original film’s opening scene, as the camera pans slowly inside a spaceship. It looks a bit like the original Nostromo itself, and Alvarez recently confirmed that it was done on purpose.
Overall, Alien: Romulus is the eighth movie in the Alien franchise and the ninth to feature xenomorphs (if you count the Alien vs. Predator crossover).
The theatrical release is scheduled for August 15, 2024.
