The Neverending Story, the popular fantasy novel by German author Michael Ende that received a cult film adaptation in 1984, is being reborn on the big screen thanks to a partnership between Michael Ende Productions and See-Saw Films. The world of Fantasy will return to cinemas in the form of several tapes.
Details of the project, including the exact number of films to be made, will depend on the material collected and produced. According to the studio, the vivid world described by Ende in The Neverending Story, including the Ivory Tower, Goave, the Desert of Flowers, the Silver Mountains, Ghost City, Silver Lake and the Swamp of Trouble (where Atreus’ famous horse Artax is drowned), makes the filming process large and international The studio will try to keep in touch with the book’s legacy by shooting some scenes in Germany (much of the 1984 film was actually shot at Bavaria Studios in Munich).
A modern film is likely to support nostalgia for a film of the last century. However, it is known that Michael Ende himself did not accept the film because of its too much deviation from the original.
The new films will be executive produced by Lorenzo De Maio, former CEO of Endeavor Content, Michael Ende Productions CEO Wolf-Dieter von Gronau, See-Saw CEO Simon Gillis and creative director Helen Gregory.
Published in 1979, The Neverending Story became a bestseller in Germany, was translated into 45 languages, and sold millions of copies worldwide.
