Posts by Ukrainian users on Facebook and Instagram are moderated by Ukrainians, Meta assures

The company Meta, which owns the social networks Facebook and Instagram, talked about the features of message moderation, including Ukrainian users. Previously, Ukrainians complained many times that after the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, “anti-war” moderation in social networks increased, a large number of relevant messages were blocked or limited.

Blocking of Ukrainian bloggers on Facebook and Instagram — the Ministry of Digital has asked Meta to improve the quality of moderation

It is noted that about 40,000 employees deal with security issues in the company. At the same time, 15,000 perform the duties of content reviewers. Such teams are located in different countries of the world and are in different time zones. However, this does not apply to Moscow.

“Contrary to some myths, we do not have and have never had moderators working from Moscow,” said the Meta press service’s response to Forbes’ request. “We don’t have and never had an office there either.”

At the same time, information about the location of the office dealing with Ukrainian affairs was revealed. It is noted that the regional office, which manages 28 countries of the entire region of Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, is located in Warsaw.

Verification of the content of publications and complaints is carried out in a combined way – using artificial intelligence technologies and human labor. Ukrainian speakers who understand the local context work in the teams. Ukrainian moderators are engaged to check Ukrainian content that requires linguistic and cultural expertise.

However, Meta claims that the number of complaints does not affect the decision to remove content. If the post does not violate the rules and standards of the social network, even a large number of complaints will not lead to removal and blocking.
