Western Digital released its third quarter fiscal year 2021, which closed on April 2, with one of the world’s largest storage providers showing mixed results.
Revenue for the three-month period was approximately $ 4,14 billion, which is 1% less than in the third quarter of the previous fiscal year, when Western Digital received $ 4,18 billion.
At the same time, the net profit skyrocketed by an order of magnitude. If a year ago the company earned about $ 17 million, now it is $ 197 million. Profit per security has increased from 6 cents to 63 cents.
Revenue in the client devices division was $ 2,01 billion, up 10% year-on-year. Consumer solutions brought about $ 888 million: an increase in this area was 8%.
The Data Center Devices and Solutions division, which is responsible for products for the data center, recorded a 19 percent decline, with revenues of $ 1,24 billion.
Western Digital shipped 23,2 million hard drives during the quarter, up from 24,4 million a year earlier. Of these, 9,2 million were client devices, 5,7 million were drives for data centers.
