The number of downloads of the Android version of the instant messaging application Facebook Messenger has exceeded 5 billion, the AndroidPolice resource reported, citing data from the Google Play store.

According to reports, Facebook Messenger has become only the 14th application in a row with five billion downloads. As you might guess, many of these software products are owned by Google and come pre-installed on Android smartphones. However, there are other Facebook products among them. In 2019, the Android client of the social network Facebook crossed the threshold of 5 billion downloads, and in 2020 the WhatsApp messenger joined it.  

Despite Facebook’s criticism of how the company processes user data, statistics show that Mark Zuckerberg’s brainchild is heading in the right direction. The company continues to work towards integrating its social services to create a unified platform. This project is far from complete, and Facebook still has a lot of work to do, including in terms of ensuring the privacy of user data.
