More than two weeks ago, Paradox Interactive and its in-house studio Paradox Tinto released the Leviathan expansion for Europa Universalis IV. It received the lowest user rating on Steam in the entire history of the store. Players complained about the abundance of bugs, broken balance and broken mechanics. Recently, the director of Paradox Tinto, Johan Andersson, spoke about the release of the supplement. The head recognized the addition as a failure and apologized for it.
The executive’s statement reads: “Leviathan has been one of our worst releases and continues the low quality supplement chain for Europa Universalis IV that began with the Golden Century. At the end of the day, this is my responsibility as head of the studio and director of the game, so I must apologize for that. This is totally my fault. I should have postponed the start of Leviathan development until the moment when we have the necessary resources and can properly use them in the project. We should have announced a break from the development of Europa Universalis IV after the release of Emperor, until we have a team ready to start work in early 2021 “.
Johan Andersson also said that Paradox Tinto has accelerated its previous plans to fix bugs and release extensions for the game. Patch 1.31.3 for the project will be released this week, and another update will be released in late May or early June.
Currently, the Leviathan add-on has 3950 reviews on Steam, of which only 7% are positive.
