Sony is preparing to unveil a next-generation VR headset for the PlayStation 5. According to internet sources, the new model uses higher-resolution displays than before. Additionally, the novelty has received functionality that can significantly improve the experience of gameplay in virtual reality.
According to UploadVR, the new virtual reality headset is 4K, eye-tracking and vibration motor for tactile feedback – in addition to wrist controllers with tactile triggers.
The total resolution will be 4000 × 2040 pixels, that is, 2000 × 2040 pixels for each eye. Previous PlayStation VR for PS4 only supported 960 × 1080 points per eye. In the new version, the user will not have to see the spacing between pixels, which will provide a more effective immersion in virtual reality. Unlike competing models like the Oculus Quest 2, the novelty uses a cable connection via a USB Type-C port. As you know, the corresponding connector is also available on the Sony game console.
Additionally, the successor to the PlayStation VR is known to track eye movement. The so-called “foveal rendering” allows you to render in the best quality only the part of the scene that the user is looking at, leaving areas on the periphery somewhat blurred. This saves console resources, allowing you to handle more complex graphics. In addition, eye tracking allows, in theory, the creation of avatars with more realistic facial expressions.
The next generation VR headset also works with motion tracking technology by the headset itself. Whereas Sony used to use an external camera to control a small space between the player and the console, now they will use cameras on the helmet itself, allowing you to freely register any movement around the room.
