Here I would like to briefly share my impression of one of the most memorable devices on our market: a fancy gaming smartphone with a cool appearance, loud stereo speakers and a cool 144 Hz screen.

Graphic Design
Frankly, I don’t like all sorts of gaming gizmos. I think that all these whistles, sparkles and other garland decorations give off some kind of tastelessness or, as it has become fashionable to say now, gypsyism. I can’t say that ROG Phone 5 is included in the “club” of the above-described devices, but it is close to that.
The front panel of the device is no different from other modern gadgets, but the back, the designers tried to do at least not gone.
I knew there was a logo on the back that was illuminated in some incredible way. In fact, it turned out that he just flashes in different colors. That is, there is no special animation, no pixel structure. Moreover, I quickly played around with the backlight and turned off this function, since the smartphone has an AOD, which displays information more clearly.
Ease of use
During testing, I could not get used to the dimensions of the ROG Phone. It’s too big, thick and heavy. I also didn’t like the back cover. The impression is that it is made of plastic and is hollow inside.
In general, ASUS ‘weight and size parameters are for a big fan.
Of the pleasant things – the presence of a light indicator on the front panel on top, a fast fingerprint scanner under the screen and high-speed face unlocking.
And it is also worth highlighting the presence of a motor of the Taptic Engine type – hammer vibration feedback. As usual – the best solution for interacting with the device.
Screen
Unfortunately, this model is not equipped with a high-resolution display. Here is the usual FullHD + and almost 6.8 inches AMOLED matrix. You can see the rest of the technical parameters in the full review.
In the characteristics, the brightness was declared 800 – 1200 nits, in real life it is 600 nits. That is, the screen is bright, but not that bright. Probably, the brightness increases in some short periods of time.
The device has the ability to change the screen refresh rate: 60, 120 and 144 Hz. Or auto. For three days I worked at 144 Hz, then switched to 120 Hz. Yes, there is a difference in favor of 144 Hz, but it is very difficult to catch it. But the transition from 120 Hz to 60 Hz is more noticeable.
Overall, the ROG Phone’s display is decent, but not particularly impressive.
The gadget has AOD support. So, except for the last “aoda” (only hours and minutes one above the other), the rest glow dimly on the lock screen: sometimes you have to look closely even at night.

Let me remind you that the ASUS ROG Phone 5 uses a 6000 mAh battery. I switched different screen modes and came to the conclusion that at 60 Hz the device “lives” about 20% longer. If you choose between 120 Hz and 144 Hz, then for the sake of economy, set 120 Hz, because the 144 discharges the device fiercely.
Despite the 6000 mAh battery, I had enough ROG Phone 20 hours. The screen luminescence for about 7 hours at auto brightness. The indicator is not bad for such a device.
There is no wireless charging in the smartphone.

It seems to me that the cameras in ASUS were set according to the leftover principle: “So, the processor is cool, there is a lot of memory, the design is a masterpiece, but we have run out of budget for cameras.”
No, ROG Phone takes photos normally, but this is not its “strong point” for sure. You have a good main camera and a regular “shirik” available.
But the video is in all its glory: here you have 8K, and 4K at 120 Hz (slow motion), and “shirik” with 4K. True, all these delights are available thanks to the Qualcomm processor. Stabilization is digital only. And because of the “stub” based on EIS, the viewing angle is reduced.

Performance
Well, here ASUS ROG Phone really surprised me! I’ve never met such fast smartphones. While I was dealing with the device, I came up with an excellent analogy – ROG Phone is like a personal computer: big, noisy, hot, but it “drags” any programs and games. I think you will have no doubt that this model will “digest” everything that the user “feeds” it.
But here the trick is not even in performance, but in the speed of information processing. The device instantly loads menus, applications, games. And the entire smartphone interface seems to be constantly doping. Sometimes it even seems that the UI is processing your actions too quickly.
Under the load of the processor, the body of the phone heats up a lot. Actually, for this, the developers came up with an external cooling element in the form of a fan.
Playing on ASUS ROG Phone is a pleasure because:
- No lags
- Maximum FPS in any game
- Instant touch processing (refresh rate of the touch layer – 300 Hz)
- SPEAKERS !!!
Yes, yes, the fourth point is highlighted exactly like this – DYNAMICS. They are simply the best mobile devices on the market. They are loud and bass, the sound is spacious, lively and rich. Believe it or not, even vidos on Instagram are nice to watch, what can we say about games and music.

This device is not designed for calls, gatherings on the Web, chat rooms, Tik-Tok and other “instastorises”, it is for detailed use as a large powerful gaming device.
Yes, I didn’t enjoy using the ROG Phone as a handy mobile phone, but for those who want the coolest sound, the highest performance, the most advanced touch, the ASUS ROG Phone is a must have!
I don’t see the gadget on sale widely, but in some stores it is sold for 55 – 000 rubles. For this money, the ROG Phone is a very interesting smartphone. I would definitely recommend it!
