Deep Silver has announced the re-establishment of Free Radical Design in a new press release – the studio will begin developing the next installment of the TimeSplitters series in the coming months.
The intention to revive the THQ Nordic brand (parent company of Deep Silver) was announced in the financial report for the first quarter of 2019, but decisive action only now came to light.
The revived Free Radical Design is reportedly founded by several key members of the original team, including Steve Ellis and David Doak.
The updated Free Radical Design is based in the English city of Nottingham and is currently focused on setting up and building a studio – the team has not yet started developing a new game.
“Finally being able to confirm the studio’s formation and plan for the next TimeSplitters is incredible. We cannot tell you anything more now, but in the future we will share [additional] information. “– said Ellis.
Deep Silver Marketing Director Paul Nicholls added: “The unique style has provided TimeSplitters with a large and passionate army of fans who will no doubt be delighted to form their newest studio, Deep Silver.”.
The original Free Radical Design was founded in 1999 by Rare employees. In 2009, the studio was bought by Crytek and renamed Crytek UK, and in 2014 it was closed – at the same time it was acquired by Deep Silver and named Dambuster Studios.
