An Intel spokesman said the Sapphire Rapids family of server processors will use Golden Cove rather than Willow Cove.
It is noted that Intel avoided disclosing this information for a long time. But the features Sapphire Rapids are said to provide would simply not have been possible with Willow Cove. The new architecture will support DDR5 memory as well as PCIe Gen5 and CXL 1.1.
Plus, Golden Cove will obviously be using Alder Lake’s most expensive consumer platforms. Videocardz reported that manufacturers have already begun to produce new motherboards for the X-series CPUs based on Sapphire Rapids.
