As early as last year, there were rumors about Tesla’s search for a site for the construction of an electric car plant in the UK, but then the project’s prospects were clouded by the approach of Brexit. Sources say that Elon Musk has visited the country again, and the local authorities are busy looking for a suitable plot of land.
As Electrek explains, the personal plane of the head of Tesla spent more than a day at the airport near London, and The Telegraph circulated information among its subscribers about the search by the municipal authorities of two districts of Great Britain for a free plot of land up to 2,5 square kilometers for a company whose name is not named. The search for the site was allotted an unusually short time – only 48 hours, and this could be due to the program of Elon Musk’s visit to the UK.
Last quarter, Tesla was able to sell 7304 electric vehicles in the UK, making the country the largest market for the company in the then-current European Union. With the introduction of the left-hand drive version of the Tesla Model Y, the importance of the UK market for the company’s business should only increase. Tesla considered a site in this country as an alternative to the German one, but later decided to build an enterprise in the vicinity of Berlin. Perhaps now there is less uncertainty about Tesla’s future UK venture.
