Independent studio Thomas Happ Games, in a conversation with IGN, has confirmed the postponement of the planned release of its ambitious metroidvania Axiom Verge 2 to a later date.
Recall that Axiom Verge 2 was originally announced for the fall of 2020, but in October 2020, the creator of Axiom Verge Thomas Happ announced the postponement of the game to 2021.
As it turned out from the IGN publication, after the first delay, Hupp hoped to have time to release Axiom Verge 2 in early 2021, but these ideas were not destined to come true.
From now on, the premiere of Axiom Verge 2 is scheduled for the third quarter (that is, the period from July to September) of this year. In the indicated time period, the game is expected on PC (Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch.
According to Hupp, the extra time will be good for Axiom Verge 2. In addition, the delay will allow the independent game designer to avoid burnout and unnecessary rework.
As a moral compensation for the next transfer of Axiom Verge 2, Hupp published a documentary about the creation of the first part. You can watch the tape for free on the IGN YouTube channel (video attached above).
In February, it became known that the PC version of Axiom Verge 2 will be a temporary Epic Games Store exclusive. Hupp explained his decision by the financial side of the deal and promised that before Steam “Eventually” the project will get there too.
