Counterpoint Technology Market Research has released statistics on the global smartwatches market in the first quarter of this year: device sales have grown significantly, and Apple remains the undisputed industry leader.
According to analysts, global shipments of smart chronometers between January and March, inclusive, jumped by a third year on year – by 35%. This data includes shipments of basic watches, premium devices, and gadgets for kids.
Apple took 33,5% of the global market. For comparison: a year earlier, the share of the “apple” empire was 30,3%. In second place is the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, whose share fell from 10,1% to 8,4% over the year. Samsung closes the top three with 8,0% versus 8,5% a year earlier.
If we consider the market in terms of the operating systems used, then a third of the industry is occupied by Apple watchOS – 33,5%. Another 8,0% is accounted for by Tizen, approximately 6,7% – by Huawei LiteOS.
Apparently, sales of smartwatches will continue to increase for the foreseeable future. Apple will remain the largest supplier of such gadgets for now.
