Intel Arc graphics cards for desktop PCs began to appear only in June of this year. The company gradually launches its products, focusing on the needs of certain markets. Intel has yet to release the Arc A580 GPU. perhaps video cards will appear before the end of this year. This will be the company’s last model in the affordable segment at this stage. This and some of the company’s views on the development of video cards were told by the senior vice president of Intel, Raja Koduri, at the ConnectiON conference in Mumbai.
According to Koduri, Intel is successfully developing the Battlemage and Celestial architectures that underlie next-generation gaming graphics cards – but he was not ready to talk about dates. Willingly and with great readiness, Koduri highlighted Intel’s approach to the power consumption of video cards.
Gadgets360 journalists asked the vice-president whether Intel shares the tendency of increasing the power consumption of video cards, which is observed in competitors. Raja Koduri responded that performance per watt, or higher performance with lower power consumption, is his top priority.
“There’s always someone with some skill who can say, ‘I’m going to give you more juice,’ but I’m focused on lower power. The problem I found is that while the increased power and high test results are good from a marketing point of view, [ограниченное] number of PC users can simply buy such a card.”

When asked about the development of top-level video accelerators, Koduri said:
“There is no limit to the high level now. What is the definition of high-end? Is it 600 watts? Obviously, our partners and our customers want some graphics cards to boast high performance and we always like to find ways to provide that. But my priority at the moment is to get a mainstream audience [потребителей, и сделать это] using a single power connector. This is possible in the range of consumption up to 200-225 W, slightly higher or slightly lower.
Consumption in the region of 200-225 W is currently included in the specifications of the Arc A770/A750, Radeon RX 6700 or GeForce RTX 3060 video card models. However, Intel A7 GPUs and models from other manufacturers achieve this goal already with two power connectors.
Intel’s goals sound noble, but the company’s products still have to overcome the shortcomings of software and hardware architecture to ensure more even performance in games and support all modern technologies. “Smooth” operation of the video card is a higher priority for gamers than energy consumption. Which, despite the statements, is also far from ideal – a large number of tests noted a high level of consumption of Arc video cards in idle mode.
