The series “The Witcher” based on the books of Andrzej Sapkowski became one of the hits of Netflix. Two seasons were released, the third and fourth are in development. There was also an animated film that showed Geralt as a child, and now a prequel about the birth of witches in the form of a mini-series The Witcher: Bloodline. The Netflix production brought many changes compared to the plot of the books, and users are asking if showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hisrich has an interesting version of the ending of the story.
Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently spoke with Hisrich and The Witcher: Blood Origin co-writer Declan de Barra about where the series will end and where the events of the expanded universe might lead. Speaking about the series in general, Hisrich explained:
“Me and my leaders at Netflix have made it our goal to always have the end point in mind. For me, when you start just writing stories without knowing where they’re going, you can get lost… Yes, I absolutely know how the series will end. I know how the season is going to end, I know how it’s going to end and it’s very, very exciting.”
Hisrich explained that Mistress of the Lake, Sapkowski’s fifth novel in the Witcher saga, will be the final book in the main series. But since the book delves into the legend of King Arthur, the potential for the story to extend beyond the series is huge.

“I’ve often been asked, will there be other sequels, prequels and spin-offs? I think, of course, Sapkowski’s books are limitless in a lot of ways,” added Hisrich, and joked that the show could go on for quite some time until she turns gray and plays Geralt himself.
“Readers of books will not have answers to all questions”
Just because you’ve read The Witcher books won’t help you predict how the series will develop:
“I think a lot of people believe that you kind of start a TV season saying it’s going to be this book, but clearly we couldn’t do that because there are a few books other than Blood Elves that mostly have was based It didn’t have enough action to sustain us, so we had to bring parts of Baptism by Fire into the season. The parts before the stories, I mean the episode of “A Grain of Truth” that started the second season. So we immediately understand that we have to be flexible about how the books are divided and how the seasons are.”
Lauren Hissrich once again confirmed her peculiar attitude to the books about the witcher Geralt, from which the series continues. Its events can be perceived as an alternative or completely separate story based on motives. Naturally, with this approach, it is difficult to think about the further development of the plot, as well as the expanded (or alternative?) universe from Netflix. It’s good that the team of “The Witcher” has a holistic view of the story until its end. However, as the experience of another TV series based on a famous book series shows, this does not guarantee a truly spectacular ending.
