Microsoft’s potential deal to buy Activision Blizzard risks hitting another snag on its way to closure. According to Reuters, the European Union intends to check the agreement for compliance with antitrust legislation.
Sources said the European Commission is preparing a statement of objections to the deal, which it will send to Microsoft within several weeks. The European Commission previously set an April 11 deadline for a decision on whether to approve the acquisition.
The European Commission refused to comment on this information. Meanwhile, a Microsoft representative said:
“We continue to work with the European Commission to resolve any market issues. Our goal is to bring more games to more people, and this deal will help us achieve that goal.”
The deal to acquire Activision Blizzard is also being investigated by the UK Competition and Markets Authority. This process should be completed by April 26. The US Federal Trade Commission sued altogether to block the deal.
