Police officer Mike Valentine found himself in Vegas and discovered a crazy urge to gamble. This addiction cost Mike his career as a cop and a happy married life with his colleague Iris. Due to debts, he is forced to work for a Philadelphia criminal authority with the unbearable name of Moss Yankov.
This unpleasant guy decided to give his girlfriend Della a nice white BMW, and she took it and ran away somewhere in Florida. Valentine, on the instructions of the boss, is forced to go there, to his native state, and find the fugitive. But romantic feelings for a beautiful woman, the prospect of taking possession of a real treasure and some other circumstances confuse all the cards for the new detective.
Even at the beginning of the year, viewers could watch criminal adventures in Oklahoma, in particular, in Tulsa, where the cool Sylvester Stallone confidently showed that there is enough powder in the powder bins. And now new trials are taking place in another American state. Its carefree sunshine and friendly oceanfront bars are a stark contrast to rugged Oklahoma ranches and cowboy haunts.
However, he inherited a lot from the cute series with Sly “Man from Florida”. First of all, a criminal focus with hints of humor designed to defuse the tense atmosphere. Plus the storyline of Yankov, who, like the villain in “King of Tulsa”, seeks to get out of the shadow of an authoritative father. And, of course, the English actor Richie Koster, who appeared here not long at all.
The project really lacks a well-tailored story, where all important elements would be useful and work harmoniously.
Aggregate Films Jason Bateman (who can be seen in the recent Airy) offers a plot overloaded with superfluous characters and subplots. Therefore, binge watching turns into a real test, and few people will like such a test of patience.
The screenwriters seem to have used the components necessary for a high-quality crime-comedy story. Here you have riddles, and an ambiguous hero with a lot of problems to solve, and a hardened scoundrel, and an unpredictable femme fatale in between, and even a treasure hunt. Or rather its imitation. That is, you can maneuver wherever you want, and you can also play neon noir.
The bad thing is that we see a lot of excess in the plot. Numerous branches are difficult to be around.
The pace of the story jumps a lot, which bloat is simply catastrophically harmful. The plot lethargy makes the episodes seem endlessly long, almost like the legs of Australian supermodel Abby Lee. It’s purely content for content’s sake.
The character line of Clark Gregg, who the mass audience knows thanks to the role of Phil Coulson in the Marvel universe, is especially unsuccessful and redundant. His Deputy Sheriff Catcher looks so ridiculous that it is not a sin to use the buzzword “cringe”. Gregg himself, by the way, became the director of some of the episodes.
They do not add dynamics and flashbacks, the oldest of which goes to the fateful year 1715. At this moment, it may seem as if they are about to start talking about the skill and traditions of Lviv brewers. But no, unfortunately, or fortunately, there is no such thing and the feeling quickly fades.
It becomes more interesting only when, with grief in half, the story manages to reach its climax.
The last two series (or even one and a half) add at least a little intrigue and thereby revive the audience’s involvement. In everything else, “Man from Florida” is blatant mediocrity. So when the long-suffering Catcher gives the middle finger to a sign that says “Hope you enjoyed your time in Florida!” on his way out of the state, there’s a chance his heart will warm a little.
Pros:
a pleasant picture, revitalization of events closer to the end of the show, the presence of several exciting moments
Cons:
slow pace of the story, many unnecessary characters and storylines and, as a result, dialogues and scenes, vague comedic component, weak intrigue, predictability, lack of Ukrainian voice acting
Conclusion:
“Man from Florida” did not promise anything outstanding with the trailer. But in reality, things turn out to be much worse, as this show has practically nothing to offer
