At CES 2024, Intel announced that Arrow Lake processors for desktop PCs and Lunar Lake processors for laptops will hit the market in the second half of 2024. Michelle Johnston Holthouse, executive vice president of Intel, says that the company is already “in the deep and final stages” of introducing new processors.

Arrow Lake will extend the Intel Core Ultra architecture to the segment of high-performance desktop PCs. “This will be the first PC gaming processor with AI capabilities.” AMD, which has just released Ryzen chips with AI acceleration capabilities, would disagree with this statement. Intel also adopted AMD’s approach, when the new architecture is first implemented in laptops and then presented on desktops.

In turn, Lunar Lake will appear in laptops. This processor features a “radically new low-power architecture and significant IPC improvements,” as well as three times the AI performance on both the GPU and NPU compared to Meteor Lake. Currently, these chips are supplied to Intel partners.

Michelle Holthaus showed off the Lunar Lake chip. The main core seems to be made up of three smaller ones, also on the board there are chips similar to the built-in RAM. It is interesting that earlier a video with a similar chip appeared on the network, but it was removed by Intel.

The company did not disclose any technical details of the new processors. It is unofficially known that the 4+4-core Lunar Lake CPU uses Memory on Package (MoP) with LPDDR5X-8533 fast memory. It’s likely two 8GB or 16GB chips. It is expected that in addition to the division of desktop and laptop processors into two different architectures, Intel will also introduce a division into powerful and weaker energy-efficient processors.
