The trial version of Notepad for Windows 11 includes a link to the new AI-powered Cowriter feature.
In a screenshot shared by X user @PhantomOcean3, the app shows a hidden menu with an early implementation of a new AI feature that can be used to overwrite, reduce or increase the overall volume, change the tone or format of the text.

AI will likely be integrated into Notepad soon, but it will work like a similar feature in Paint — via an online service that requires you to sign in to a Microsoft account (and have the same credit system).
More Cowriter stuff in latest Записник app update: a file called CowriterWhitelist
Also, a “hero image”, which likely appears in that dialog

Since the launch of Windows 11, the corporation has been purposeful in updating Notepad, adding a built-in character counter, dark mode, tabs, and more.
Microsoft is currently working on the next major Windows update, codenamed Hudson Valley. It is expected to focus primarily on next-generation AI features, including Windows AI Search and a user history/chronology feature that will make it easier to find previously opened programs, files, and web pages. A new Super Resolution feature is also in the works, which will use artificial intelligence to increase the resolution of video games, etc.
Last week, the company announced that 2024 will be the “era of artificial intelligence computing” and announced that future Windows computers will come with a special Copilot key on the keyboard.
