Microsoft is preparing to introduce a number of new Windows 11 features in 2024 aimed at improving the user experience in various aspects of the operating system.
Since these features are still under development, there’s always the possibility that Microsoft will decide not to release them after testing, Bleeping Computer reports.
Here’s what awaits Windows 11 users in 2024:
Notepad with artificial intelligence
Microsoft intends to change the traditional notepad in Windows 11 with an artificial intelligence feature called CoWriter. This integration brings artificial intelligence to the text editor, offering users a wide range of intelligent editing tools.
CoWriter is equipped with a menu with options Length, Tone, Format, Instructions (Length, Tone, Format and Instructions). This indicates a high level of customization, which allows artificial intelligence to change the text according to the specific needs of the user.
The “Replace” button deserves special attention, which hints at the ability of AI to offer alternative options or modifications of the selected text. AI is said to understand the context, providing relevant suggestions based on the content of the document.
USB support with a transfer speed of 80 Gbit/s
The upcoming Windows 11 update will support the latest 80Gbps USB standard, initially available on some devices such as the Razer Blade 18 powered by Intel Core 14th Gen HX-series mobile processors. It is fully compatible with peripherals designed for previous generations of USB and Thunderbolt, and works together with all other USB Type-C features.
This massive update to the USB4 standard doubles the bandwidth from 40Gbps to 80Gbps, paving the way for high-performance displays, storage and connectivity devices.
Autorun Copilot in Windows 11
Microsoft is testing a new feature for Windows 11 developers that will automatically open Copilot on devices at startup.
Since many people probably won’t like this new feature, Microsoft has left the option to turn it off by going to Settings > Personalization > Copilot.
Advanced sharing options
Microsoft Edge and other browsers can use the Windows Sharing window to share URLs directly with platforms such as WhatsApp, Gmail, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn.
You can access Edge by clicking the sharing icon on the toolbar.
Lock screen weather update
An interactive weather forecast will appear on the lock screen, allowing users to quickly check the weather even when the screen is locked.
This feature allows Windows 11 users to hover over a weather map for detailed information and click on it to view the full MSN Weather forecast through Microsoft Edge.
This feature is available starting with US English-speaking users.
Improved voice access
Voice Access in Windows 11 enabled extended language support (French, German, Spanish) and multi-screen functionality.
Users can now use voice commands to facilitate navigation and control across multiple screens. In addition, special voice commands are available for English-speaking users to create personalized voice keys for various actions.
