The Netflix series “Gentlemen” is based on Guy Ritchie’s film of the same name. The director himself acted as creator, co-author of the script and executive producer (the last two positions – together with Matthew Reed). The main character, played by Theo James, inherits an estate on the territory of which cannabis is produced.
In The Gentlemen, Eddie Horniman unexpectedly inherits his father’s large country estate – only to discover that it is part of a cannabis empire. What’s more, many unsavory characters in the British underworld want to get involved. Determined to free his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, when he is drawn into the world of crime, he begins to develop a taste for it.”
“Welcome to the jungle,” Eddie says in the trailer:
The cast includes Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Chanel Cresswell, Michael Wu, Max Beasley, Jasmine Blackborough, Harry Goodwins, Dar Salim, Piers Quigley, Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Along with Ritchie and Reed, the Netflix series was executive produced by Marne Davis and Ivan Atkinson. Mark Helwig is executive producing for Miramax TV, and Will Gould and Frith Tipladey are producing for Moonage Pictures. The producer of the series is Hugh Warren.
The original 2019 action comedy tells the story of the leader of a cannabis empire, Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), who tries to sell his business, but in the process faces a lot of trouble.
“Gentlemen” will premiere on Netflix in March.
