Microsoft is preparing to update the Windows Setup Experience installer for the first time since Vista. The updated Windows OS Media Setup interface appeared in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26040 (Canary Channel). According to Microsoft, it has a “much cleaner and more modern design”.
The Windows Blog assures readers that “all the same functions will be supported during the installation of the operating system.” The before and after pictures show the difference between the old and new version.
The one that has probably survived the most attempts to install Windows is NTDEV, known for its OS builds such as tiny11. The developer was amazed at the appearance of the new Windows installation interface, writing on Twitter that “the impossible has happened”.
The impossible was done: Microsoft eventually updated the Windows Setup experience that was introduced in Windows Vista. As of now, it’s only on the latest Windows 11 Canary build, 26040, but it’s expected to trickle down to the next major version of Windows. pic.twitter.com/dSiRDGAYNs
