Microsoft will launch a suite of its Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and other applications on Apple’s headset tomorrow – the same day Vision Pro hits US stores.
Headset owners can also use Copilot’s artificial intelligence to create drafts, meeting summaries or PowerPoint presentations using their voice.
Word on Vision Pro includes a focus mode (similar to the reading mode in desktop versions), as well as a ribbon interface – more convenient for touch control. Excel allows you to create charts and tables, analyze data and generally use most of the functions of the regular version of the program.
Although Microsoft recently launched the Mesh platform for Microsoft Teams, which enabled meetings to be held in 3D and VR, integration with Apple Vision Pro will not be available at launch.
“We will continue to innovate for new devices, including Microsoft Mesh for Apple Vision Pro next year,” said Laurie Crowe, director of marketing for Microsoft 365.
Similar to Zoom on Apple’s Vision Pro, Microsoft Teams will support Apple’s “persona” (digital avatar based on face scanning) during video calls. Microsoft also added emojis and made it easy to transfer a Teams meeting from desktop or mobile to Apple Vision Pro, or from a headset back to other devices.
While Microsoft, Disney and others support Apple’s Vision Pro headset at launch, there are some notable exceptions. Netflix and YouTube aren’t launching separate apps for the headset this week, so users will have to stream videos from Safari. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg previously reported that almost 99% of apps for the headset are unmodified versions for the iPad.
