Two key groups of EU lawmakers on Tuesday approved an interim agreement on a future law on artificial intelligence, with a full vote in Parliament scheduled for April.
The new legislation is set to put up “fences” for artificial intelligence, which is used in many industries, from banking and law enforcement to the automotive industry, electronic products and airlines.

In particular, basic models or generative artificial intelligence created by OpenAI with the support of Microsoft will be subject to regulation. At the same time, most AI programs are defined in the law as “low-risk technologies”, meaning they are not covered by it.
EU countries backed the rules in early February, after France made concessions to ease the administrative burden on “high-risk AI systems” and better protect trade secrets.
At the same time, as reported by Reuters, bigtech still remains concerned because some of the rules appear to be “vague and general.”
