Jez Corden of the Xbox Two podcast claims that Microsoft is working on a portable version of the Xbox console. He also claims that this is not a cloud device, but a real portable console.
“I know that now in [Xbox] there are prototypes of portable devices… No, it’s not a cloud-based handheld device, it’s a fully native Xbox handheld device.”
Corden explained that these are new prototypes and not the older devices that are often mentioned. Prototypes don’t necessarily mean new products are coming to market, but Xbox is still developing a handheld console.
Earlier in the official podcast, the president of Xbox, Sarah Bond, in particular, talked about the upcoming plans: “We have more to come. There’s some interesting stuff coming up in hardware that we’re going to share this holiday season. We are also investing in the next generation roadmap. What we’re really focused on is delivering the biggest technical leap you’ve ever seen in a generation of hardware, making it better for gamers and creators.”
The Nintendo Switch has sold more than 100 million copies since its launch, and now that Steam Deck, ROG Ally and even PlayStation Portal have hit the market in the past few years, similar plans for Xbox seem very likely. The release of portable devices is a successful idea for attracting funds against the background of the general stagnation of the console market. It is not known when Xbox will announce a portable Xbox. Various sources suggest that it may be similar to the Nintendo Switch.
A new Xbox developer kit has been spotted on the site of the Korean regulator – some new console will be released this year
