Microsoft appointed ex-Call of Duty executive Joanna Faris as president of Blizzard

Microsoft has appointed former Call of Duty general manager Joanna Faris as president of Blizzard Entertainment’s game publishing division.

Microsoft, which bought Activision Blizzard for $69 billion in the fall, also announced that Matt Cox has taken over the role of Blizzard’s senior vice president and general manager of Call of Duty, effective immediately.

Faris, whose appointment is effective Feb. 5, joined Activision Blizzard in 2018 after more than a decade with the NFL, Reuters reports.

Last week, Microsoft laid off 1,900 employees at Activision Blizzard and Xbox. Mike Ybarra and Allen Adam, who were Blizzard’s president and chief designer, respectively, have left the company.

Microsoft will lay off 1,900 employees of the gaming division (8% of the workforce) – Activision Blizzard, Xbox and Bethesda will cut staff
