Intel’s new plan – 40 million processors for computers with AI this year and 60 million in 2025

First, Microsoft confidently named 2024 as the year of the AI PC, and now it’s time for an “astrology” session from Intel, which aims for 100 million computers with artificial intelligence in two years.

Intel inside – AI PC

The new strategy in the PC market and goals for the future were outlined by Intel’s vice president David Feng (responsible for the Client Computing Group division – processors and logic sets for personal computers) within the framework of the MWC 2024 exhibition, which these days is rather inconspicuously held in Barcelona.

Intel is currently working closely with Microsoft to define the criteria for this AI PC. Key elements of the AI PC concept are a dedicated Copilot button, a chatbot, and other broad Microsoft AI efforts, as well as Intel Core Ultra processors with integrated graphics and discrete neural processors for AI models in the current vPro platform for business notebooks.

Large language models and artificial intelligence are the new gold at the current stage of the struggle between Microsoft, Meta, Google and NVIDIA for the supremacy in the creation of advanced chips. It is enough to look at the dynamics of stock quotations and financial indicators of these companies over the past few years, especially at the “green” chipmaker, which increased in price by 5.5 times in 2023 and recently reached $2 trillion in market capitalization. All major PC manufacturers except Apple have confirmed plans to release computers with artificial intelligence later this year.

Microsoft is again more expensive than Apple, and the entire “big seven” is more than $12 trillion (30% of the S&P 500 index). 20 largest companies by capitalization

What now with the PC market

60 million next year is quite an ambitious goal for Intel, considering that it is more than 20% of the projected global PC market in 2025, Asia Nikkei notes. According to Counterpoint Research, the global PC market will collapse by 14% in 2023. But there is also good news — the first signs of a revival in demand, which inspire hope for a rebound to record times already this year. In fact, Jon Peddie Research analysts in a recent report recorded a 24% increase in the supply of PC processors by the end of the last quarter of 2023.

We made a screenshot and remembered – in two years we will see if Intel will eventually be able to be inside 100 million PCs with AI.
