Disney+ is making a fantasy series about elves and dragons based on the Eragon book series

Hollywood publication Variety, citing its own sources, reported that the Disney + streaming platform has begun work on the film adaptation of the Eragon series of novels by Christopher Paolini. The cycle, also known as The Inheritance Cycle, includes four novels: Eragon (2003), Eragon. Return “(2004),” Eragon. Brisingr (2008) and Eragon. Legacy” (2011).

The plot of the cycle develops in a fantasy world where people, elves, dragons, gnomes, urgals and other fabulous creatures coexist. The protagonist of the entire cycle, Eragon, finds a dragon’s egg as a teenager, after which he gradually becomes a dragon rider and begins to fight evil.

Interestingly, the first book in the Eragon series was already filmed in 2006, and by a large film studio (20th Century Fox), with a good budget and box office ($100 million and $250 million respectively) and a very good cast (Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich). However, this did not save him from criticism – the picture received only 5.1 points out of 10 according to IMDb and 38 points out of 100 according to Metacritic.

As you can see, the latter fact did not alienate the representatives of Disney +, who felt that the upcoming project had potential. The decision was probably influenced by the popularity of the books (more than 41 million copies of the series have been sold worldwide) and the trendy theme of dragons, which was most popularized by the Game of Thrones series.
