During the Worldwide Developers Conference 2022, Apple introduced a new version of macOS Ventura. It includes a new Stage Manager tool, updates to Spotlight, Mail and Safari, as well as a number of features that bring the desktop OS closer to mobile iOS.
The new Stage Manager tool automatically arranges open applications and windows so users can focus on their work and still see everything at a glance. The current working window is displayed prominently in the center of the screen, while other open windows are displayed on the left, allowing you to quickly switch between tasks. Users can also group windows when working on specific tasks or projects that require different applications.
The updated Spotlight allows you to search for images in your photo gallery by location, people, scenes, objects, or the presence of text. You can perform various actions from Spotlight, such as starting a timer or a Shortcut.
The updated Mail app has improved search, instant suggestions, and typo fixes. Also, right in the application, you can schedule or cancel sending a message, set a reminder to return to messages in the future. In addition, Mail determines if the user forgot to add an attachment or provide a copy of the recipient of the message.
Safari has a new Tab Groups feature that lets you share tabs with friends in real time. You can also collaborate on bookmark lists and start conversations or calls right from your browser. Biometric “Passkeys” have been added to Safari as a replacement for traditional passwords.
Similar to iOS16 , the Messages app now allows you to edit and recall sent messages, restore deleted messages, and mark messages as unread. Users will be able to collaborate on files in group chats and join SharePlay sessions.
The new macOS Ventura lets you transfer FaceTime calls between iPhone and Mac. In addition, iPhone owners will be able to use the smartphone’s high-quality camera as a webcam. In this case, the computer automatically recognizes and uses the iPhone camera when the smartphone is nearby – no manual settings are required. Continuity Camera supports Center Stage, Portrait Mode, and the new Studio Light (lights up the user’s face and dims the background).
Similar to what’s new in iOS16, macOS Ventura users also have access to shared iCloud Photo Libraries, where up to 6 users can add content.
The Metal 3 toolkit has been announced for developers, which is designed to reveal the possibilities of the gameplay on the Apple platform and the potential of the company’s own chips. For example, MetalFX Upscaling allows developers to quickly render complex scenes using less resource-intensive frames, and then apply resolution scaling and temporal anti-aliasing. Additionally, game developers will be able to take advantage of the new Fast Resource Loading API.
