Every day more and more technology and financial companies leave the Russian market due to the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Almost simultaneously, two well-known transnational companies, IBM and Microsoft, joined the list. The first decided to completely leave the Russian market, and the second will “significantly reduce” business in the aggressor country, which in turn will affect more than 400 employees.
At the end of March, Reuters reported that employees of Microsoft, SAP SE and IBM do not share the management’s decision to continue business in Russia with clients not subject to sanctions, and call for a complete halt to any operations.
In early March, the Blue Giant suspended all deliveries to customers in Russia, and now it has decided to completely withdraw from the aggressor country. The decision was made on May 30 in connection with the ongoing war in Ukraine since February 24. IBM CEO Arvind Krishna promised that management would provide Russian employees with “all necessary support during the transition period.”
Regarding Microsoft, on March 4, the Redmond giant announced that it was suspending the sale of goods and the provision of services in Russia, but not completely, but partially. Now the management of Microsoft has made the decision “to essentially reduce operations in Russia”. It is reported that the new restrictions will affect more than 400 employees. Whether this means a reduction in staff is not specified.
“We are working closely with them to provide full support during this difficult time”
