On June 8, Activision, as promised , held a presentation as part of the next phase of the announcement of the next Call of Duty – we are talking about Modern Warfare II, whose release is scheduled for October 28, 2022. Today, the developers showed the debut cinematic trailer and told some details about the upcoming “witch”, which, according to Activision, will begin a new era of Call of Duty.
Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, with which Activision relaunched the Modern Warfare sub-series that started back in 2007. The game was first announced in early February together with Warzone 2 – both shooters are being created from scratch on a new engine.
Story Company MWII
The action of the story campaign of Modern Warfare 2 will unfold three years after the events of the first part of the game. She will talk about a global conflict involving veterans of Task Force 141, the Mexican drug cartel and the terrorist organization Al-Qatala. The new part will return well-known characters – John Price, Simon “Goust” Riley, John “Soap” MacTavish and Kyle “Gas” Herrick. They will be accompanied by Colonel of the Mexican Special Forces Alejandro Vargas.
Among the key innovations of MWII are advanced artificial intelligence, which is described as the most “realistic” in the history of the series (enemies will carefully check positions, react to changes in the situation and run away if the battle is considered lost), reworked vehicle and vehicle control mechanics from scratch, an improved system customization of weapons (it will be possible to flexibly adjust different characteristics of weapons), more opportunities for free movement in the game (it will be possible to dive, and one of the missions will take place completely under water, and the developers promise not to neglect the laws of physics).
Multiplayer MWII
Of course, Modern Warfare 2 will also include a multiplayer mode with a variety of maps and modes. Actually, they promise both traditional small maps for the 6×6 format, and large-scale maps (it is not yet known what format), a mysterious special tactical multiplayer mode (no details yet).
Warzone 2
Infinity Ward will also be releasing a sequel to Warzone’s “battle royale” sometime later this year, after the release of MWII. An important detail: players will not be able to transfer progress and content from the first part, since Warzone 2, as noted above, is also being created from scratch on a new engine designed for simultaneous battles of about 300 opponents and 100 real players. All three main developers of the series (Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games) worked together on the new engine to ensure their sub-series is unique.
Return of Call of Duty to Steam
Modern Warfare 2 will also mark the return of the Call of Duty series to Steam (since 2018 the series has been sold exclusively on Battle.net), where players will be able to purchase and play the game immediately upon launch. In addition to Steam, Modern Warfare 2 will also be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
It is noteworthy that the game is not available on Russian Steam, since Activision had previously suspended sales of games in Russia. And yes, there will be no No Russian in MWII.
